Andre Henriques has been a Heathen for over 25 years, initially in Portugal, and the last 18 years in the UK. He has been active in Pagan and Heathen communities in Norwich, London, Bristol, and different European countries, having led many ceremonies, lectures and workshops on the subject of the Northern traditions of Europe.

In Bristol, where Andre currently lives, he is part of the Admin team of the West Country Heathens, offering public Heathen and Pagan related events in Somerset and Wiltshire, with regular pub and online moots, ceremonies, and days out. WCH are part of the Confederation of Heathen Kindreds, and are linked to the largest inclusive Heathen organisation in the UK, Asatru UK.

For several years Andre has offered ceremonies and workshops at the well-known Treadwell’s bookshop in London. Workshop topics have included Introduction to Heathenry, Norse Gods and Goddesses, Runes, Seidr, and Old Norse Cosmology.

Andre has a Masters degree in Cultural Astronomy, and pursued academic research for his dissertation on the practices and cosmology of contemporary Norse-inspired Pagans, focussing on the oracular and shamanistic practices of present day Seidr. Always an avid reader of academic works on history, archaeology, and anthropology of different time periods and cultures, in his workshops Andre combines his experience on the Heathen path with current academic research on all things Norse and Germanic, trying to be very clear on what we actually know about the past, and what are modern interpretations of that past.

Andre is interested in several others Pagan and magical traditions and spiritualities, including different witchcrafts, shamanisms, ceremonial magic, and a long-standing meditation practice in various currents of Shaiva Tantra, which is Shiva and Devi focused practices and philosophies (not to be confused with modern sacred sexuality practices who also call themselves Tantra). His current teacher is Chris Wallis, author of Tantra Illuminated.

These traditions and practices have influenced and inspired Andre’s approaches towards his version of a Heathen Spirituality.
